Video shooting diary

Video Shooting Diary
Day 1
Today I shot the first 14 seconds of my video, the first thing I did was look for the right location. At first I was going to film in the middle of my school’s field as it’s secluded. However, I found that it was too bright here and the surrounding e.g. the busy road behind it was not an ideal mis-en-scene. I then chose to film it in front of a brick wall; I found that this was the ideal place to shoot as it gave a solemn feel to the video as well as a gloomy look. I asked two of my friends, Chris and Maddy, who do drama at A-level to play the part of the abused girl and the abusive man. The first take I did wasn’t right as the sun was too bright in the shot and made it look happier. After repositioning the camera I found my perfect shot, I then began to edit this scene on a mac by cutting the last few seconds out of the film and changing it to black and white. I cut the last few seconds out as I felt like the shot was too long.
Day 2
I then edited text into my video showing facts and statistics concerning child abuse. In this part I also added music; the song I used was To Build A Home by The Cinematic Audience. I chose this song as it has a slow melody which can sound emotional to people. I know this because I played it to my friends first and asked for their opinion. The feedback they gave me included “it made the film more emotional” and “the introduction really added emotional to the facts that were showing”. I also add did music because the mix of video and music will engage my audience further. Between each shots I added a ‘fade’ effect as I believe it made more natural transactions between scenes.
Day 3
I used face makeup to create fake bruises on Maddy’s face. Every time I added more makeup onto Maddy’s face I would take a picture of it, after I had finished this I had a series of pictures. The pictures of Maddy started of her face with no bruises to pictures were her face is heavily bruised. I then added this to my video to show a fast sequence of pictures of Maddy’s bruises fading away. As this sequence is happening I would use audio of someone talking about how the charity can help children.
Day 4
I videoed my friend Tom, who I had also included in the ‘Our Youth Team’ picture to talk about how the charity helps abused, neglected or exploited children and his role in the Youth team. I edited the beginning of this audio over the sequence of pictures but then showed the film after the sequence had finished.
Day 5

After the shot clip of Tom speaking I edited my logo onto a white screen were my logo would be shown for a couple of seconds; I did this to add recognition of my brand.
