Website Plan
The name I have chosen for my website is The Invisible
Children, the website will be for the supporters of children who have been
abused, neglected or exploited. My target audience will also be adults between
the ages of 21 to 40 who are caring and able to donate money to support and
help these children.
To appeal to my target audience I will do the following
things;
1.
Keep
the colour scheme simple by using two main colours, blue and white. I have
chosen a blue colour as this colour can connote depth and stability. As well as
symbolising trust and loyalty.
2.
The
text will be formal and will include facts and statistics. By doing this the
website will look serious and not childlike. The facts will also encourage
people to donate as they will be shocking.
3.
The
font will be sophisticated, plain and black rather than being large, colourful
bubble writing. The font I will use will most likely be ‘New Times Roman’. The
font will be plain because conventionally real charity websites seem to be
serious looking and I would like to create a sombre mood.
4.
I
don’t plan to use celebrity endorsements or characters. I also don’t plan to
use stuffed toys as gifts as this can be childlike and will not appeal to
adults. Instead I may use small pin badges donors can receive when they
donate.
5.
Able
supporters to create an account. The account will allow them to receive latest
news about the charity; this can bring an educational sense to the website.
On my first webpage (the homepage) I
plan to put a video there, the video may tell people what our charity is about
and who we are. I’m putting the video on the homepage as it will grab people’s
attention as it includes sound and a narrative so people will want to find out what is happening; videos are also more personal, entertaining and emotional.
The facts will also be on the
homepage and they will be put in the middle of the page. The facts will be
shocking and in the centre of the page because people will see them easily and
hopefully they will encourage people to donate. The facts will also be used to
inform people more about the children we help. Along with the facts I may use
statistics as sometimes people find statistics more horrifying than facts. This links in with Uses and Gratifications theory because this theory proposes that people consume media for 5 main reasons and by informing my my audience, I am educating them, which from the theory is a reason people consume media.
Also on the homepage I may use a
picture of a map showing the location of our walk in centre’s across Britain,
so that people can come visit us to donate or help the charity. I’m planning to
do this as I believe it gives a more person sense to the website rather than
just being an online charity. I will also include an image of ‘our team’, to do
this I will take my own image of people I know. I will use this image because
again I feel like this will also make it more personal.
For my second page I will base it on
children’s stories of how they have been abused, neglected or exploited and how
we have helped them overcome this. On this page I will use around 4 original images as this is a requirement from OCR and it will allow me to create a range of images.
I will use images as they can help the audience identify themselves as well as
making the page more accessible looking than just solid text. The images will give my website a 'human face'. I feel this will have a positive impact as it will show success stories and allow viewers to relate to the people on the screen. Next to these images I will put their stories;
their stories will be a short paragraph as I want to get straight to the point on how we have helped these people, by keeping it shorter it will also engage the audience for longer. These paragraphs will tell how
they got exploited, neglected or abused, how and why they came to us for help
and how we helped them overcome this. It is important for the viewers to feel they are similar to the people on screen because New Media theory suggests that audiences now like to shape their media and by doing this it will allow the audience to get more involved.
